Both consonant and dissonant syncopations are permitted. As in the previous species there are rules and dissonant syncopations are only permitted when:

• the dissonance is on the downbeat
• the dissonance resolves downward by step

[numbers refer to the interval between the parts - 6 = 6th etc.]
